Aloha 'Rita

I’m done with lying around. It was nice on Fiji, but a long voyage awaits me. On the Nanuya Levu beach I decided to sail over the great Pacific heading northwest. A journey of 5000 kilometers is in front of me and Hawaii is next. I’m going to the Kauai Island, which is called the Garden Isle. And there is a good reason for this. There, amazing greenery and the Opaeka’a waterfalls are waiting for me..
Along the way I visit numerous islands and take a rest. No, I cannot enjoy. I had enough of sun, beaches and salty water. I am dying for fresh water, the sound of waterfalls, greenery and a different kind of break. I don’t know neither what day it is anymore, nor how long I’m travelling. I have passed the date line which intersects the Pacific from north ‘til south a long time ago. I think I’m getting close to my goal, but everything is blurry, I think I’m losing my sense of reality. Months spent at sea might leave serious consequences. Although I am an experienced sailor, I can hallucinate in these situations too, to see what I want to see. The very idea that there are several thousands of meters below me makes me restless. On the far horizon I see mountain peaks, but I’m not sure whether the subconscious is playing tricks on me or the magical islands are at my fingertips. I encourage myself to stand a bit longer. If the mountains begin to rise I’ll be very happy, but if the peaks simply disappear, I will struggle with depression.

Hawaii - Kauai island

Soon I see clearer that I’m here. Hawaii is waiting for me. I’m ready for the volcanic eruptions too. Everyone who goes there must be prepared for smoke and lava because these islands were formed from volcanic eruptions. So we must respect this force when we go to the paradise islands that can turn into hell. I'm ready for anything just to stop rocking on the waves which never rest. I finish this part of my voyage in a place called Waimea. There I leave the raft. The waterfall is some 50 kilometers away. I pass through the heart of the island and finally I cannot see the sea but only forests and greenery. I rest my eyes and spirit. I walk through the dense forest and hear the distinctive noise of water. Finally I reach our second target. I’m entering the lake. The waterfall is above me. What a reward after such a trip. There is one more reward in the lake and it’s the Tiki beverage Aloha ‘Rita. Green liquid, a beverage with lime, refreshing as a breeze from the Hawaii Mountains. The bottle almost blends with the water which is also green. I open the bottle cap and take a sip. I was dreaming of this while sailing the vastness of the Pacific. This is the best aloha greeting I could get. Hawaii has welcomed me in the best possible way.

My brain restarts functioning. I remember, from encyclopedias, that Kauai is the oldest of the eight main islands of Hawaii. The highest point of the island is Kawaikini top with 1.573 meters. Top Waialeale with 11,684 millimeters of annual rainfall is one of the rainiest places in the world.

This island is a very popular location for filming Hollywood movies. The following movies were filmed here: Pirates of the Caribbean, Avatar, Jurassic Park, Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark and many others. If there were cameras here, even I, Thor the Adventurer, could be a hero of some movie. It’s true that I had enough action, but I guess I could chase villains in these woods. I think it’s always a good feeling. Especially for us, adventurers. In the absence of Hollywood producers at the moment I enjoy a Tiki made of lime and greenery. This color of nature truly relaxes. It reminds me of youth, honesty and rebirth. In Hawaiian language green is spelled Oma’oma’o, and it’s read (as they explained it to me) “oh-mah oh-maoh”, if I heard correctly. Green is the color that most pleases the eye and ophthalmologists claim that can improve one’s eyesight. It is a color which soothes and refreshes. I’m neither the first nor the only person who wishes to remain forever on this island, but a new Tiki adventure awaits me. Another long voyage across the Pacific and one more exciting destination are waiting for me. Enjoy Hawaii and the taste of Aloha ‘Rita while waiting for the next adventure.
